Common Voter Questions about Absentee by Mail Voting
How can I return my absentee ballot I received by mail? You can return your absentee ballot by mail or in-person at your municipal clerk’s office.
When does my absentee ballot need to be received to be counted? Please return your absentee ballot as soon as possible. Absentee ballots must be received by 8pm on election day. But don’t delay! Please return as soon as you can to make sure your ballot is counted.
Can I cancel my by-mail absentee ballot? If you need to change or cancel your absentee ballot request contact your municipal clerk. The last day to cancel or change your by-mail absentee is the Thursday before Election Day for most voters.
If I lost my by-mail absentee ballot or I made a mistake on my absentee ballot; can I get a replacement? If you need to request a replacement ballot contact your municipal clerk. The last day to request a by-mail replacement is the Thursday before Election Day for most voters.
I requested an absentee ballot by mail, now I’d prefer to vote in person; can I do this? If you have NOT returned your absentee ballot: Contact your clerk, you may be able to cancel your by-mail ballot and vote in person. You can cancel your ballot by contacting your clerk or bringing it with you when you vote in-person to be cancelled.

If you have already returned your by-mail absentee ballot: You may be able to cancel your by-mail absentee ballot if you contact your clerk to cancel your by-mail ballot by the Thursday before Election Day. If you returned your by-mail absentee ballot and do not cancel it by the Thursday before Election Day you may NOT vote in-person.

How will I know if my absentee ballot was counted? Absentee ballots are not counted until election day. It then takes up to 30 days for results to be certified and for your voter participation to be recorded. You can see when your ballot is counted in My Voter Info.
There’s an orange box in my ballot tracker showing an error with my application or certificate, what should I do? There is a problem with your ballot application or with the certificate on your return envelope for your voted ballot. You may need to provide your photo ID, sign your certificate, or your witness’s signature or address is missing from your return envelope certificate. Contact your clerk to find out and make sure your ballot is counted.
